Invisalign Aligners Not Fitting? Try These 3 Simple Steps!

You’re happy to be one of the millions of patients to receive Invisalign clear aligners for orthodontic treatment. But is it just your imagination, or do the plastic trays not fit quite right in your mouth?

If your Invisalign aligners feel funky, it’s probably not your mind playing tricks on you – but the situation might not be as problematic as you think! Keep reading for a list of three simple steps that could help.

Why Aren’t My Aligners Fitting?

Firstly, you should know that there could be many reasons why your Invisalign trays don’t seem to fit quite right. True, there’s always the possibility they’re simply not the right size. However, that’s a less likely cause than tray damage or warping, not wearing Invisalign for 22 hours per day, or even not being used to a new set of aligners. All of these problems can make it feel like you need to replace your trays!

3 Simple Invisalign Adjustment Steps

Sometimes all it takes to break in a new appliance is a bit of strategic maneuvering. Try out these simple steps before you dial up your dentist:

  • Double-check to make sure your aligners are firmly in place by biting down or sliding your finger along the tray. It could be that they’re sitting a bit loose, in which case exerting more pressure should pop them tight against your teeth.
  • Make sure you’re wearing Invisalign for 22 hours per day. Hopefully they’ll feel more natural after a day or two, but if not, it’s time to move on to step three.
  • Try the Invisalign chewies. These soft squishies are kind of like gum, but not quite. They’re specifically designed to help your aligners fit your teeth, so it’s definitely worth giving them a shot!

What To Do When All Else Fails

If these three solutions fail you, then the only thing left to do is call your dentist. They’ll probably want to see your aligners in person to check on the size or see if they can make adjustments. Otherwise, they might have you “backtrack” to your previous set of trays.

Whatever solution they prescribe, know that they’re keeping your comfort and overall oral health in mind. Trust them to take care of your smile, and you’ll have perfectly straight pearly whites in no time!
